Denis Cuspert, who was a German national, was on the US State Department’s list of global terrorists after joining the Islamic State and making serious threats against Americans and President Barack Obama.
According to officials, Cuspert was also active in recruiting Western Muslims to join the ranks of ISIS. He was allegedly killed in air strike near Raqqa, Syria on October 16.
Cuspert was a popular rapper in Germany under the stage name “Deso Dogg” before he converted to Islam.
The State Department called him “emblematic of the type of foreign recruit IS seeks for its ranks – individuals who have engaged in criminal activity in their home countries who then travel to Iraq and Syria to commit far worse crimes”.
The former rapper kept in contact with young Westerners via social media, trying to win them for the cause of radical Islamic terrorism.
