Building Collapse in City of aquatic Splendor Lagos; One too Many!
The Attention of authorities had always been drawn to incessant incidences of building collapse in the recent past and most recently the collapse of building at Odunfa Street Adeniji Adele area of Lagos State prompted my voice to add to other numerous hitherto to look at proactive measures to curb this menace that claims not just properties but human lives.
Their are reports of a three-storey residential building that went down at the Odunfa Street area of Adeniji-Adele, Lagos Island, with many occupants of the building trapped inside the rubble.
According to witnesses, the building which housed many tenants, fell after a heavy down pour in the night and many of the occupants could not escape.
The building collapse in Nigeria, and particularly Lagos, has been on the increase in the past few years, lending credence to the notion that it is either the builders are cutting corners or the owners are using substandard materials to erect these buildings.
On September 22, a building under construction collapsed in the highbrow Lekki area of the state, with many labourers reportedly trapped inside.
I join other well meaning Nigerians to call on the authorities once again, to leave no stone
un-turned in fashioning solutions to curb this trend.
