According to Dallas police, the wife of a man who was killed by a former Texas A&M football player while jogging, has been found dead after an apparent suicide over the weekend.
The lifeless body of 54-year-old Patti Stevens was discovered in her Sunnyvale, Texas home on Sunday. While the medical examiner has not released an official cause of death, a spokesman for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said the death is assumed to be a suicide.
Patti Stevens had lost her husband David Stevens, 53, in a random attack while jogging at White Rock Creek Trail on October 12. The attacker hacked Stevens to death with a machete.
After calling 911 and confessing “I just committed capital murder”, Thomas Johnson, a former Skyline High School and Texas A&M football player, was taken into custody for the attack by police.
In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, the widow said, “Dave was the love of my life and I’m lost without him.” She and her husband had no children.
Stevens’ body wasn’t identified until nearly two days after the crime, which occurred without any apparent motive.
Johnson, whose senseless crime has now wiped out two lives, remains behind bars at the Dallas County jail. His bail has been set at $500,000.
